Gospel Music Superstar: Kirk Franklin is boycotting the The Dove Awards.
In a recent post on social media, Instagram Franklin, who considers The Doves to be the “Grammys” for Christian Music, and refers to The Stellars as The Grammys for Gospel Music…mentions that in 2016 he won the award for Best Gospel Artist. In his acceptance speak, he made reference to families that had been affected by gun violence and even offered prayer for their families on the air. When the Doves aired the show, Franklin’s speech was edited and did not reflect the concerns he conveyed.
Franklin reached out to the Doves and Trinity Broadcasting Network(TBN), for answers, and was not responded to.
Fast forward to 2019 Dove Awards, Franklin wins the same award, in this acceptance speak, he again makes similar reference to other families that had been affected by gun violence, offered prayer to the families affected as well as the families of the shooters. Again, his speech was edited.
Kirk Franklin said: “Not only did they edit my speech, but they edited the African American experience…”
As of today, Kirk Franklin…until further notice or action, is boycotting The Dove Awards. He states, that’s he is NOT asking the Gospel Community to follow him in his boycott.
Kirk Franklin further stated: “In the end…we will not remember the words of our enemies…but the silence of our friends”.
